Disneyland guests, I have good news for you! The Disneyland Railroad and Rivers of America will be returning Summer 2017!
Both attractions were shut down for about a year while construction was being done on the new Star Wars Land section. Now, they will be reopened with some beautiful new features!
In the artist rendering by Disney Imagineering we can see that they have added a new waterfront and elevated trestle for the Disneyland railroad. The railroad will continue out onto the river allowing better viewing of the new waterfalls. If it looks like the concept art it’s going to be stunning!
The Rivers of America, which are meant to represent the Mississippi, Columbia, Missouri, and Rio Grade Rivers, will now have a Columbia Gorge section featuring five waterfalls. Besides the Disneyland Railroad, guests can view the beautiful new design from the Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, or the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes.
Adding to the new look, for the first time every, the trains can now make left turns while navigating around the park. According to the Disney Parks Blog not everything is completely changed. The Indian Village will still be included, but it is now at a different location.
In addition to the new waterfalls, Disneyland park fans will spot some familiar faces along the Rivers of America as well as throwbacks to Frontierland’s past. The Indian Village, now in a new location, will include a more prominently featured Shaman, seen telling the story of how the hummingbird taught the Indian chief to make a flute.
No official date for reopening has been set, other than “Summer 2017,) but stay tuned for more information as we get it. I’m excited to see pictures of this when it opens!
