Disney’s Family Magic Tour is a “guided scavenger hunt.” This tour leads you, your family and other guests around the Magic Kingdom. You will solve riddles, play games and search for clues that will lead you to your next location. There may also be some special surprises along the way. This is a family friendly tour that engages everyone in your party. There are no age restrictions, but Disney states that “it is best suited for Guests 4 to 10 years of age.”
The tour itself involves lots of outdoor walking and lasts for approximately 2 hours, so dress and pack accordingly and also check the weather forecast for that day. Typically, the tours run each morning at 10:00 AM and begin at Town Square Theater. Disney recommends that you arrive and check in 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour. You will be given a name tag and a bottle of water for everyone in four group. The tour costs $39.00 for all guests 3 and up, children 2 and under are included at NO Charge and must be accompanied by a paying adult. For more information on this tour click here.
In our most recent visit to Walt Disney World, my family and I participated in this tour. SPOILER ALLERT!!! I will be looking back and taking you through some highlights from our tour, so stop reading here if you don’t want to spoil the magic. Our experience may not be the same as what you might experience.
Introductions
The tour started out at Town Square Theater where we checked in and received our name tags and waited for our tour to begin. Our family consists of myself, my Wife and our daughter, who was 15 months at the time. We were joined by a family of 4 which consisted of a Dad, Mom, Daughter (about 8 y/o) and Son (about 4 y/o). Our guide for the tour was named Jocelyn. She was amazing and was extremely knowledgeable. We started with introductions and said who our favorite Disney character was and why. This was a great way to break the ice.
Jocelyn began the tour by providing us a back story. To paraphrase a bit, “Mickey was practicing his magic the night before and something went wrong and some of his things went missing”. Our job was to solve the riddles and search for clues to find Mickey’s lost items and return them back to him.
The Tour Begins
Our first activity was a tic-tac-toe style bean bag toss game, which revealed a riddle on the back each individual square. Everyone in the group got a chance to toss the bean bags until the clue was revealed. We had to search in the immediate area to find the item that the clue was referencing. Once the Item itself was found, the Item had a clue attached to it, which pointed us to the next area where we would have to search and what the next item would be. With each item we found, it led us to the next area and provided a clue as to what we were looking for. The children in the other family were so smart. They were able to solve even the toughest riddles/clues where all the adults were left scratching our heads.
Along the way we played games, such as Follow-the-leader. Everyone pulled a chip out of a bag. You had to act out what was on the chip while leading the group in a single file line around the park. The chips included like a plane, lion, ballerina and different animals and people. Everyone took turns leading and acting out their chip until we got to our next destination.
One of our clues was located in the gift shop of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride. What is the best way to get to the gift shop? Go through the ride. Jocelyn had a magical password which got us access to the Fast Pass line, without a fast pass! What a great surprise. We rode the ride and found our lost item which led us to our next area.
As we searched for our next lost item, we had a surprise visit by Peter Pan. We spent about 10 minutes talking and taking pictures with him. To top that off Alice, from Alice in Wonderland, also stopped by. How amazing is that? At this point we were about an hour into the tour. We took a much needed bathroom break and grabbed a snack.
The Home Stretch
After about a 10-15-minute break, we continued to solve riddles, clues and find Mickey’s lost items. Once we found our last item, our final clue pointed us to the Town Square Theater. Jocelyn led us to the fast pass line where we were granted access to meet the Mickey. Our tour concluded with a visit to see Mickey. It was here where we were able to successfully return all of his items. It was a great interaction for all the participants. This was a great way to spend 2 hours at the Magic Kingdom. The tour, in my opinion, provided a great value and lasting memories.

Kids over the age of 3 have to pay for the tour. Where did you get the idea they’re free?
Thank you sgarv19, you are absolutely correct. Children 3 and up are the same price as adults, just as they need a park ticket.
