Universal Studios Hollywood is experiencing an extra-exciting time right now because the Studio Tour is celebrating its 60th anniversary! The entire park, from the Lower Lot to the Upper Lot, is decked out with vibrant 60th anniversary banners and specialty food, treat, and beverage options. During my recent trip, I tried some of the limited-time anniversary food options at Hollywood and Dine on the Upper Lot. We all know that sometimes theme park food can just be mediocre, but my experience at this quick-service spot was anything but that.
For lunch, I got the BBQ Cheeseburger on an adorable Woody Woodpecker bun and the non-alcoholic Cosmic Pop (a swirl of Sprite, alcohol-free blue Curaçao, grenadine, and sparkling cranberry juice, topped with blue raspberry Pop Rocks). Honestly, the BBQ Cheeseburger was BOMB! I was not expecting anything special, just a meh theme park burger, but on the first bite, I had to do a double take because I was surprised by how good it was! The beef patty tasted like it was made on a charcoal grill, all the toppings were super fresh, and the BBQ sauce with the onion rings really knocked this one out of the park.
The Cosmic Pop was a surprise as well. I was expecting a sugary drink that wouldn’t be very refreshing, but this one also blew me away. It was bubbly and flavorful, and the pop rocks added a bit of fun. It reminded me slightly of a Shirley Temple, but more dressed up. If you’re looking for a new meal to try next time you’re at Universal Studios Hollywood, I highly recommend both items. You’ll want to hurry, though, as these limited-time items will only be available until August 11when the Studio Tour’s 60th anniversary ends!
Insider Tip: If you’re going to spend a whole day at the park and want to try several of the anniversary-themed foods, I recommend the Dining Pass. It costs $60 (plus tax) and includes two entrees and four other items, including sides, snacks, desserts, or beverage items. Not all menu items are eligible for Dining Pass redemption. Menus at each location will include the Studio Tour 60th Anniversary icons to indicate available items. The pass is only valid on the purchase date, so you can’t spread it out amongst several visits (FYI for all you locals with a pass!).
