UPDATE on Disney World Monorail Accident

Earlier this week we reported that a door had fallen off of a Disney Monorail. We believed that the accident involved Monorail Lime, but now new details have emerged and it is actually Monorail Green that had the issue.

According to WDW News Today, a Disney spokesperson confirmed the accident had, in fact, occurred and said it was due to a scooter running into the door.

According to a Disney spokesperson, a motorized scooter struck the door while it was loading guests at the Grand Floridian. The impact caused the door to unhinge and fall off of the monorail. No injuries were reported, and guests disembarked to take buses and/or ferries to their destination. Repairs were made at the station, and the train was up and running again later that afternoon.

WDWNT goes on to speculate as to whether or not a simple scooter mishap could cause a closed monorail door to fall off as easily as it did. Perhaps there were already underlying maintenance issues?

Whatever the true cause, if the rumored monorail upgrade does happen, it will be much welcomed by Walt Disney World guests.

I've loved Disney as long as I can remember. As a former newspaper editor, web developer, and Disney comics freelancer, I'm able to combine that experience into writing about Disney online. I'm also the co-host of a Disney fan podcast called 'Pirates & Princesses.' Opinions mine.
