Hey Insiders! We know how overwhelming it can be when you start planning a Disney vacation! The very first thing you consider is typically where you’re going to stay, and it’s SO important to pick the right resort for your family! The main question you should ask yourself is, “How much time do we plan to spend at our resort?” If you have rest days planned within your trip, you want to make sure you have access to whatever you want to do that day! Lounge poolside? Play on the waterslide? Have an elevated dining experience? Book a spa appointment? Get your hair done? Rent a pontoon? Go Horseback riding? YES, these are all things you can do at certain Disney resorts! Let us help you narrow down your search by giving you a few important things to consider when resort shopping:
How much time do I plan to spend at my resort? If you plan to go go go on your whole trip with little to no rest days from the parks, then you’re likely to be content booking a value resort, or the best deal you can find for your dates. If you have rest days built into your trip (which we HIGHLY recommend!) then you’re likely to shop around & spend a little more for access to the amenities you want to use on your day off from the parks.
What do I want to do at my resort? Overall, most Disney resorts have great pool areas; you really can’t go wrong if you’re just looking to swim & lounge poolside! A lot of resorts even have multiple pool areas that you can check out; this way no matter where your room is, you’re likely to be close to at least one pool! There are certain resorts that offer different, more unique activities that you’re family may want to take advantage of, as well which could be your decision-maker! Such offerings include things like carriage rides at Port Orleans Resort, horseback riding at Fort Wilderness, or boat rentals at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort! See? there’s a lot to consider!
How will I get to the parks? What transportation options do I want to use? ALL Disney resorts provide transportation to and from the parks, but the methods offered depend on where you stay! Some offer only buses, others offer a combination of buses, the Skyliner, monorails, or even boat transportation! Be sure to check which methods are offered at your resort!
Do I need a Kitchenette? Villa? Suite? Do I want a private balcony? Only certain Disney resorts offer larger, more spacious rooms like studios, suites, or even multi-bedroom villas! If you’re traveling with a larger group, check out the price comparison between individual rooms or one larger accommodation! You never know, you may be able to find a great deal!
What type of dining do I like? Do I want a table-service restaurant? Or am I content with quick service? Will your family have time to dine in a restaurant at your resort? Will Grandma and Grandpa hang out at the resort and need a nice place to eat something other than a burger and fries? Again, how much time will you spend there? Would you rather go to Disney Springs for dining? What’s your plan for meals? Disney does typically offer a nice variety in their quick-service locations, so that may be totally fine for your family!
