Where do Disney families go when they can’t be in the parks? The Disney Store, of course! It’s a rainy day (again), here in South Florida and I knew I had to figure out some way to keep the boys entertained. After getting over the initial sadness of not being a Disney local, and actually going to the parks, I figured the next best thing would be going to our nearest Disney Store.
I should preface this story with the fact that I rarely go anywhere with one, let alone both of my kids. Stores are not fun with a 4 and 5-year-old. Especially when it’s a store like the Disney Store. However, I’ve been reading about the Toy Story 4 events taking place at almost every Disney Store during June, and I figured they would love it. I really had to “mom-up” on this one, channel my inner Elsa and just let it go. As per usual, and as I expected, chaos ensued when we walked in. Luckily, the store was about to start their Toy Story 4 activities, so that caught their attention.
Our Disney Store didn’t have the interactive digital games I had read about, but there was a rocketship game where kids threw their colored balls into the matching color cannister. It was your typical carnival game, only much more magical. There were also coloring sheets and crayons available for kids to color their favorite characters. Guests who participate in the in-store events will get a free sticker and have the opportunity to buy a set of special Disney StoreDucky and Bunny figurines for $5. Each parent was also given a commemorative pin from the event.
By the time the games were over, they were a little more settled down and ready to look through the newest Disney merchandise. I realized that this was the first time, in a long time, they had been to the Disney Store. And for sure when they were last there, they were in a double stroller. I got so much joy from seeing their faces light up at all the Disney Store had to offer. I told them they could each pick out one special treat, so of course, they took their time looking through everything. I can’t count the times we headed to the register, ready to go, and one or both of them had changed their minds. At the end of it all, Toy Story reigned supreme and they each walked away with something from the new Toy Story 4 merchandise line.
If you’re looking to get your Disney fix, and entertain your kids, bring them to your local Disney Store. It’s so special that Disney extends its magic from the parks into its stores. Us being at the store today, was the next best thing to be in the parks. And we also discuss what a true testament it is to Disney and Pixar, that these beloved characters I loved as a kid, are now the same ones my boys love? The nostalgia of it all gets me every time!
The event takes place every day at 3:00 pm and runs through the end of June. Toy Story 4 is out in theaters on June 21st- just 2 days from now! Thanks for the fun, Disney Store!
