If you’re planning a Walt Disney World trip, you’ve probably seen the Disney Dining Plan come up at some point. The one I’m talking about here is the Table-Service Dining Plan, which includes one sit-down meal, one quick-service meal, one snack, and a refillable resort mug per person, per night of your stay. I used this plan on my recent trip, and I wanted to share how it worked for me, what I ordered, and how I think you can get the most out of it.
The biggest thing to know is that the sit-down meal is where most of the value is. This is the meal where you go to a restaurant, get seated, and have a server. For lunch or dinner, it usually includes an entree, a dessert, and a drink. If you’re 21 or older, that drink can often be an alcoholic drink, which can make the plan feel like a better deal.
The 2026 Table Service Dining Plan costs $98.59 per adult (ages 10 and up) and $31.94 per kid (ages 3-9) per night of stay. In total, for all the meals I listed below, I would have spent about $400. The dining plan cost $492.95 for my total of 5 stays. I skipped 2 quick-service meals because I wasn’t hungry and had other things going on (I did a VIP tour one day, which included lots of snacks throughout the day), so I probably would have gotten my money’s worth from the dining plan if I had used my remaining 2 quick-service meals.
For me, I used my sit-down credits at:
- 1900 Park Faire (Grand Floridian character dining)
- Tony’s Town Square Restaurant (Magic Kingdom)
- T-Rex (Disney Springs)
- Skipper’s Canteen (Magic Kingdom)
- ‘Ohana (Disney’s Polynesian Resort)
At these meals, I ordered:
- Buffet, plus a mocktail (used one credit)
- Cocktail, Fettuccini Alfredo with shrimp (seafood costs more, so it’s great to maximize credit here!), and a dessert
- Cocktail, Cajun Ravioli, and a dessert
- Nile Nellie’s Noodle Bowl and a dessert
- Breakfast (used one credit)
Insider Tip: Gratuity is not included with the dining plan. At the end of your meal, your server will bring you a receipt showing a zeroed-out balance (unless you ordered something that wasn’t part of your plan, such as an appetizer), and there will be a line for you to fill in gratuity.
This is where I’d really pay attention if you’re trying to “maximize” the dining plan. You don’t want to use your sit-down credits on the cheapest meals if you can help it. A basic breakfast or a lower-priced entree probably won’t get you as much value. Lunch and dinner are usually better because they include dessert, and the entrees are often more expensive.
Character meals can also be a really good use of the plan. These are the meals where characters come around while you eat, so you’re getting food and an experience at the same time. If you were already planning to book a character meal, the dining plan can make a lot of sense.
Insider Tip: One thing I would watch out for is restaurants that take two sit-down credits instead of one. Some fancy restaurants, dinner shows, and certain character meals cost double (you can check whether the restaurant uses 1 or 2 credits on the My Disney Experience app). They can still be fun, but they are not always the best deal. Personally, I would rather get two separate sit-down meals unless there’s a restaurant I really, really want to try.
The quick-service meal is your more casual meal. This is where you order at a counter or use mobile order. I used mine for:
- The Polite Pig (Disney Springs)
- Satu’li Canteen (Animal Kingdom)
- Capt. Cooke’s (Polynesian Resort)
And I ordered:
- Chipotle Cobb Salad with crispy chicken and cocktail

Chopped Wood-grilled Chicken and Chili-Garlic Shrimp w/Noodles (combining proteins is always a bit more expensive, so this is another great way to maximize your plan) and a cocktail
- Pulled Pork Nachos
(as you can see, I did not use all of my quick service credits during my visit)
To get more out of quick-service credits, I’d skip the cheapest items and look for meals that are more filling or usually cost more. You don’t have to overthink it, but if you’re choosing between a small basic meal and something bigger or more unique, the bigger meal usually makes better use of the credit.
The snack credit is fun, but it’s easy to waste. Try not to use it on something super cheap like a bottle of water unless you really need it. I’d save snack credits for things like pastries, ice cream, festival snacks at EPCOT, or something you were excited to try anyway.
Some snacks I got were:

Amorette’s Rose (Amorette’s Patisserie, Disney Springs). Insider Tip: Amorette’s is a GREAT place to use a snack credit, since the desserts are pricier!
- Pineapple and Cherry DOLE WHIP (Refreshment Outpost, EPCOT)

- Carmel Apple (Goofy’s Candy Company, Disney Springs)
As you can see here, I did not waste my snack credits on low-priced items like bottles of water, chips, or churros. I used them on specialty, higher-priced items.
The refillable mug is mostly useful at your resort. You can use it for drinks like soda, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate at your hotel. You can’t just refill it all over the parks, so don’t count on it for that. I think it’s nice to have, especially if you spend time at your resort.
My biggest tips for getting the most out of the dining plan are:
- Use sit-down credits for lunch or dinner when possible.
- Pick restaurants you actually want to eat at, not just the most expensive ones.
- Save snack credits for better treats, not tiny, cheap items (such as water or soda bottles or bags of chips)
- Be careful with restaurants that cost two credits.
- Make dining reservations early.
- Don’t leave unused credits at the end of your trip.
Overall, I think the Disney Dining Plan can be worth it if you like having meals prepaid and plan to do a lot of sit-down dining. It’s especially helpful if you want character meals, bigger dinners, or just don’t want to think about food prices during your trip.
But it’s not magic savings for everyone. If you eat light, skip desserts, share meals, or don’t care about sit-down restaurants, you might be better off paying as you go.
For my trip, I felt I was able to maximize the dining plan by ordering cocktails and more expensive meals that had an upcharge for the type of protein I ordered (shrimp, combination, etc.). Having a sit-down meal to look forward to, especially after walking so much throughout the day, was really nice. If you don’t think you’ll be able to use at least all the sit-down dining credits, this package may not be worth it to you. There is a quick service plan, so that may be the way to go.
