Is it possible that Disney is looking at creating a new aerial gondola transportation system that will link Disney resort hotels to the Parks, Disney’s Boardwalk and elsewhere? That’s a rumor that’s been circulating on sites like WDW Magic and The Disney Blog.
Disney has recently filed permits that show a transportation system that uses L Shapes, which are commonly used in aerial gondola systems such as the Disneyland Skyway and the proposed East River Skyway of New York. With ground transportation becoming more and more of an issue at the rapidly expanding World, the solution may be to go up!
The plans seem to indicate that the gondola system would link the Caribbean Beach resort, Art of Animation Resort, Epcot, the Boardwalk and Hollywood Studios. This could partially explain the rumored expansion of Caribbean Beach, as they would need to build some sort of Skyway transportation center.
With bus traffic becoming more and more congested, and a monorail expansion unlikely for a variety of reasons, the gondolas may be Disney’s proposed solution to get more guests around the property. Since construction has already commenced on Hollywood Studios and is rumored to start very soon on Caribbean Beach, it would make sense to build these ‘Skyway stations’ now.
More info as it becomes available.
