First Look at the New Tropical Americas Attractions Coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is undergoing a major transformation as the former DinoLand U.S.A. makes way for Tropical Americas, also known as Pueblo Esperanza. When the new land opens in 2027, guests will be able to experience three new attractions inspired by Indiana Jones, Encanto, and animals from beloved Disney stories.

And at D23 this weekend, Disney is giving fans an even closer look at what’s being created, including elements from the Encanto attraction, the Indiana Jones temple façade, and character sculptures from the carousel.

An All-New Indiana Jones Adventure

Indiana Jones is officially coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom with a completely new adventure taking over the location previously occupied by DINOSAUR.

While Disney fans may already be familiar with Indiana Jones attractions at other Disney destinations, this will feature an original storyline created specifically for Animal Kingdom.

The adventure begins after Indiana Jones discovers a remarkably preserved Maya temple. Rumors suggest that a mythical creature may be hiding somewhere deep inside, and naturally, Indy can’t resist investigating. Guests will join him as he ventures into the temple to discover whether the legend is true.

Disney has also confirmed that the attraction will be unlike any other Indiana Jones experience currently found around the world.

Step Inside Casita on the First-Ever Encanto Ride

Perhaps one of the most anticipated additions is Disney’s first-ever Encanto ride-through attraction.

Guests will finally have the opportunity to venture inside the Madrigal family’s magical Casita and experience the world of Encanto in an entirely new way.

The attraction takes place after Antonio receives his magical gift—the ability to communicate with animals. His room has transformed into a lush rainforest, and guests will join Antonio as he explores his new surroundings. Along the way, expect to encounter other members of the Madrigal family and plenty of Casita’s magic.

Imagineers even traveled to Colombia to study the locations, architecture, colors, culture, and landscapes that helped inspire the original film as they work to bring Pueblo Esperanza and the Encanto attraction to life.

A Beautiful Disney Animal Carousel for the Whole Family

Tropical Americas will also include something for younger guests: a large, working animal carousel.

Rather than featuring traditional carousel horses, the attraction will showcase intricately carved animals inspired by characters from Disney stories. Disney previously revealed a carving of Kevin from Pixar’s Up as an example of the craftsmanship guests can expect to see.

This classic-style attraction should be a great option for families with little ones who may not be ready for the land’s larger adventures.

A Completely New Area of Animal Kingdom

The attractions are only part of the transformation. Pueblo Esperanza is being designed as a lush, lived-in community inspired by the Tropical Americas, stretching from northern South America through Central America and parts of Mexico.

Guests can expect beautiful architecture, vibrant landscaping, gathering spaces, and details inspired by Imagineering research trips throughout the region.

Between exploring a Maya temple with Indiana Jones, stepping inside Casita with the Madrigal family, and taking a spin on a hand-carved Disney animal carousel, Tropical Americas is shaping up to be one of the biggest changes to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in years.

The new land is currently expected to open in 2027, and we’ll be watching D23 closely this weekend for any additional details or potential opening dates.
