Universal Orlando Now Has a Disability-Friendly Quiet Room and Planning Guide

A unique place has been made for visitors with autism and cognitive disabilities at Universal Orlando. The new quiet room is now available for visitors of all ages who could use a break from the loud hustle and bustle inside the theme park. The room is located next to the Studio Audience Center at the front of the park, and it features rubber floor tiles, an activity wall panel, and two hiding tunnels. Visitors don’t need to make a reservation as it is first-come, first-serve, and a 30-minute time limit is encouraged.

In addition to the new quiet room, Universal is now also offering a planning guide for visitors who have autism. The guide includes descriptions of attractions and a list of quiet areas around the parks. The introduction to the guide states:

From high-speed attractions to energetic live shows to large walk-around characters, many of the entertainment offerings at Universal Orlando Resort’s theme parks may provide challenges to guests with certain cognitive disabilities. We’ve created this guide so that these guests and their families can enjoy their time with us comfortably and safely.

The guide also states that they are suggesting that autistic visitors bring the following with them to the theme park:

Awareness accessory such as a bracelet, shirt with autism logo, etc.
Teens/young adults should have a wallet with a photo identification card and contact information.
Earplugs or headphones
Sensory toy or calming item (blanket, string, toy, etc.)
Snacks (specific diet, gluten-free):
Extra change of clothes

The 19-page guide has a thorough guide that will help any visitor with autism have a successful and fun day at the park! Between the new quiet room and the new guide, many applaud Universal and hope to see more theme parks come up with something similar.
